WHAT IS SIMPLIFYER?

Simplifier is a mobile app designed to help you organize your receipts, eliminating clutter in your bags while keeping track of warranties and return deadlines. The app also features personal expense management tools. Additionally, Simplifier is committed to a green mission, as many receipts are made from non-recyclable materials. By promoting digital organization, Simplifier aims to contribute to a more eco-friendly environment and reduce the use of such materials.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Users need an effective solution to organize their receipts and manage their expenses because they struggle with keeping track of important documents and deadlines. They want to avoid missing warranty claims and return expirations due to disorganization.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

I conducted a thorough analysis of several direct competitors, including Receipt My Hero, Slip, and Expensify, alongside indirect competitors like Revolut and Splitwise. From this analysis, I identified three key challenges that need to be addressed:

  • Information Organization: It’s essential to present information in a clear and intuitive manner, ensuring the layout remains uncluttered and user-friendly.

  • Professional Yet Approachable Design: The app should strike a balance between professionalism and a friendly, engaging tone to enhance user experience.

  • Intuitive Information Structuring: Users should have the ability to easily organize and access critical information in a way that feels seamless and intuitive.

USER RESEARCH

The stakeholder had previously collected data from a survey, and to gain deeper insights, I conducted an additional survey focusing on user habits. Here are some of the key questions I included:

  • How do you currently manage and store your receipts?

  • What are your biggest challenges with managing paper receipts?

  • What would make you hesitant to use a digital receipts app?

  • How do you track your expenses?

To further explore this topic, I conducted five face-to-face interviews to gather more contextual insights. Participants expressed that they primarily rely on traditional methods due to a lack of alternatives. However, when presented with the option of a digital solution, they were excited about the prospect of going paperless, as they are frustrated by the accumulation of unnecessary paper that often gets damaged.

KEY LEARNINGS

  1. Resistance to Change: Users tend to stick with traditional methods due to familiarity, highlighting a need for clear benefits to encourage the transition to digital solutions.

  2. Interest in Digital Solutions: There is significant enthusiasm for digital receipt management, indicating a strong market opportunity for a user-friendly app that simplifies this process.

  3. Frustration with Paper Clutter: Many participants expressed dissatisfaction with the volume of paper receipts, emphasizing a desire for a solution that reduces clutter and enhances organization.

  4. Lack of Awareness about Risks: Users demonstrated limited knowledge regarding the potential risks of paper receipts (e.g., fading, damage), suggesting an opportunity for educational content to promote the advantages of digital storage.

  5. Desire for Intuitive Features: Users are looking for a straightforward and intuitive digital solution that enables easy organization, tracking, and access to their receipts.
